Understanding Home Water Filtration

A practical introduction to common filtration approaches.

Clear filtered water pouring into a glass

Whole-home filtration connects directly to your main water line—typically in a garage, utility room, or basement—so every tap in the house draws from the same multi-stage media bed.

Before and after every PURWTR installation, a licensed local plumber records manual water test readings in the installer app alongside a timestamped photo of a clear water sample in a glass.

  • Point-of-entry (whole-home) filtration treats water at the main line before it reaches any tap, shower, or appliance.
  • Point-of-use (under-sink or pitcher) filters treat only a single drinking tap.
  • On-site testing uses the Apera PC60 meter across 5 baseline parameters: pH, conductivity, TDS, salinity, and temperature.
  • Standard installer test kits pair a baseline TDS-3 meter with Varify 17-in-1 strips (reagent field kit optional).
